St. Catherine’s Monastery & Mount Sinai- One day tour from Eilat
This tour involves an early start and includes a guided tour of St Catherine’s Monastery and ascending Mount Sinai. It is a very active one-day trip for the more energetic travelers only. We begin the tour with St Catherine’s monastery touring its fascinating grounds and historic treasures. Having left St. Catherine’s monastery we take a picnic lunch and begin our ascent on the ancient pilgrim trail of Mt. Sinai, (Biblical Mount Horeb) known in Arabic as Jabel Musa (Moses Mountain). A two hour walk takes us to the very summit where we rest and take in the vast and inspiring views. Having descended the mountain we return to our vehicle and drive to a local Bedouin village for a local Bedouin style dinner (Optional for sup. of 15$ p.p.). Returning to Taba around 22:00.

St. Catherine’s Monastery and the Sinai desert by Jeep- One day tour from Eilat
This St. Catherine’s Monastery tour departs at 06:00am from all hotels. The Monastery of St. Catherine in Sinai’s High Range Area remains one of the most important sights of pilgrimage in the world. Saint Catherine’s monastery and its surrounding area is a world heritage site and protected by UNESCO. The monastery was erected in the 6 century and stands at the foot of Mount Sinai (traditionally believed to be the mountain on which Moses received the Ten Commandments). Although commonly called St Catherine’s it’s actual name is ’The monastery of the Transfiguration”. Constructed in the sixth century Greek Orthodox monks care it for today in the same tradition as in centuries past. We spend the morning exploring this historic site before heading to a nearby hotel to enjoy a buffet lunch.
We board our jeeps by afternoon and leave St. Catherine’s monastery behind us for an off-road tour into the depths of the Sinai desert. During this taste of 4X4 tour adventure we visit the tribal cemetery of Nawamis whose 6,000-year-old graves are amongst the most ancient covered structures in the world. We also visit the ‘Rock of Inscriptions’ carved by the very first intrepid pilgrims to venture here. We stop to admire the beautiful views over the Ein Hudra oasis before commencing the return journey to our Sinai hotel or Eilat by evening.

2 days St. Catherine, Mt. Sinai and Hiking in the High Range Area
Day one– Hiking with backpacks through the magnificent Red Granite Mountains of Sinai’s High Range is an experience of a lifetime. Explore the beautiful ancient monasteries, Bedouin gardens, orchards, oasis, waterfalls and rock pools, accessible only by foot. Enjoy the incredible panoramic views of the High Range, which span the whole of the Sinai Peninsula. as the sun goes down we head straight to the towering red granite mountains of the high range where both St. Catherine’s monastery and Mount Sinai are found. We enjoy our evening meal and settle for the night at a local hotel, or at the beautiful Bedouin hostel (Recommended)..
Day two– Early morning we begin our ascent on Mount Sinai, walking in the footsteps of the devoted pilgrims who tread this route centuries earlier. We should reach the summit just before dawn in time to witness its incredible sunrise and splendid views. Descending the mountain we return to the hotel for breakfast. We spend the later part of morning touring the monastery of St. Catherine, taking in its fascinating and unique sights and exceptional history. Following lunch we drive back to Eilat, We stop in the way on the beach near Nuweiba for lunch.

Climbing Mount Sinai for Sunrise 1.5 day Tour
Including Saint Catherine’s Monastery
Mount Sinai is believed to be the biblical ’Mount Horeb’, the mountain on which Mosses received the Ten Commandments. It is one of the Highest Mountain in the Sinai Peninsula and a very popular attraction. Visitors to Mount Sinai traditionally walk up the mountain in time for the sunrise; this tradition began hundreds of years ago with the first intrepid travelers visiting there and continues on to this day. The tour also includes a guided tour of St Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of the mountain. St Catherine’s Monastery is one of the most important sites in the Christian world. The whole mountain area surrounding the Saint Catherine Monastery, including Mount Sinai, is a listed UNESCO world heritage site.
We begin the tour late evening from Eilat and head to the Taba border where we enter Egypt. We drive south through the Sinai desert and arrive at the foot of Mount Sinai around 2:00am. A 2.5- 3 hour walk up a mountain path takes us to the summit. The spectacular views from the summit are legendary and as the sun casts its first light across the mountain peaks it is easy to see why the mountain is so revered. Having taken in the spectacular views that stretch across the horizon we make our way down the mountain to a nearby restaurant for breakfast. Following breakfast we continue on to the Monastery of Saint Catherine.
St Catherine’s’ Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Christianity. The monastery is a walled fortress that was built around the ’Burning Bush’ between the years 548-565 AD. Despite its rich and eventful history Saint Catherine’s monastery was never destroyed and is a remarkably well preserved historic site. Within the walls of Saint Catherine are priceless Christian Icons, the Chapel, the tomb of Saint Catherine, the Library and even the ’burning bush’ still remains in the grounds. We explore this fascinating site and hear about its incredible history before making our way back to our vehicle and commencing our journey back to Eilat through the Sinai Desert..

The 1st part of the tour is the same as the one above, following the visit in the Monastery we will have lunch in the village and we will drive to the sand stone area of the Sinai. We board the most authentic and reliable form of desert transportation – the camel. This ancient desert wanderer allows us to experience the desert environment in the most magical and fun possible way. We will visit the pictures oasis of Ein Hudra and Returning to the road and our transport back to Eilat
